Belsay Hall Croquet Club

                               RULES OF THE CLUB
ON ARRIVAL
Only registered and fully paid-up members are entitled to use the equipment of the club. The first member to arrive at Belsay Hall should obtain the key to the equipment hut from the Custodian on duty. The member is then responsible for the safe keeping and subsequent return of the key. The hut must be kept locked at all times for the security of equipment and belongings.

BEFORE PLAY STARTS
Before any play commences the members who first arrive should  place the detachable notice board and clock in the correct positions. The green Croquet Club notice board should be placed at the foot of the steps near the gazebo.

THE GAZEBO
The gazebo must be kept free of ‘baggage’ - which should be placed in the hut. A table and/or portable gazebo may be erected on the grass in connection with refreshments but the green chairs are not to be removed from the gazebo. (This paragraph is in respect of the wishes of English Heritage management).
On match days it is the responsibility of the Team Captain to see that members of visiting teams adhere to these rules.

END OF DAY’S PLAY
The member responsible for the key must ensure it is returned to the Custodian in the shop before 6.00 pm. To finish a game and return the key after 6.00 pm, causing Custodians to finish late, may prejudice our privileges. Members, therefore, are expected to cease play sufficiently early to be able to comply with this rule.
If the shop is closed, the key must be put through the letter box in the door at the top of the steps of the ex-gatehouse.

RISK ASSESSMENTS
Risk Assessments are a mandatory requirement of our insurer to enable us to maintain accident liability insurance cover.
The ‘Risk Assessment’ file is located in the Club hut and must be read and signed by all attending members each season.
When a revision is made mid season a notice will be posted on the Club notice board and attending members must read and acknowledge the revision with a signature.
Members must give guidance on Health & Safety issues to club visitors whilst at Belsay.
